Alexander McQueen Milan AW 2011

www.anothermag.com

Alexander McQueen is not dead. Military/uniform and everything British, Sarah Burton (new creative director) has once again represented the essence and style of McQueen. Concise dominant colours; red, blue, black. Lots of emphasis on overcoats and traditional fabrics. However, I can't help but think maybe the collection would have turned out a little more sinister had the Queen himself had control. Having said that, I liked the lightly romantic feel. Check out the McQueen website to see the Milan show streamed online. Very decadent.

D&G Milan AW 2011

D&G. This Autmun/winter was very street. Two differnt colour themes. For the suits it was black/grey and charcoal with trims in red. For casual wear, everything was bright with a come back for fluro.

Hated: the drop crotch. It was on all the pants from jeans to trousers. Yuk. Plus at the same time they cropped the length to above ankle. Please let this be a short trend.

Loved: The suspenders and hats.

If I can just have thirty seconds of silence please, I think we should all take thirty seconds of silence. Thirty seconds to pay tribute and our respects to whoever put this man on earth.

What's that secret thing? Is it the law of attraction where we manifest what we put our thoughts to? So right now I'm putting out to the universe....PLEASE let this man be outside my apartment when I leave.

AWM Milan 2011/12

Speaking of Milan. It is that time of year when the best looking men of Italy (and a couple of imports) collect on one stage to show us the up and coming trends in menswear for the European Autumn/Winter 2011/2012.

Thanks to GQ I have filtered through the many, many...should I say MENy beautiful images and have found my fav couple of looks from each show. As GQ gave to me, I will give to you.

WARNING: These pages may carry you off into dreamland of tall, dark handsome men with 'you will never see me again' eyes. Don't be sad ladies. Our men can be just as sexy. Take the ideas that you like from Milan...and put them on YOUR man!

Ermenegildo Zegna
http://www.gq-magazine.co.uk/
My favourite was his suits. Zegna shows how a young professional business suit should fit. The grey, two button, large check suit is slimlined to fit his figure and falls just at his seat. medium size lapel, slight cuff showing. What I really love about this is his accessorizing. Take a lead from Zegna and get your man to to team a grey suit with a light grey shirt and break up the colour with dark brown accents. Think: belt, shoes, tie, pocket square....to top it off, I'd even grab a camel scarf in suede. Play with textures.

Costume National Homme
I'm sorry for what's about to come.....but I was bored. I'm over looking at broody, skinny, sunken and sullen models. Didn't somebody once say that we feed off the energy of the people around us? Well then can someone please tell the models to wake up and smell the roses because I was falling asleep. Not only that, but the dead man walking theme was carried through into the colour of the collection. Everything was black. Having said that, when i focused a little more there were some beautiful round collar, two toned knits hiding underneath. Love the camel colour knit.

Ladies, how do we tell the males of Australia that this is what ruggedly handsome should look like?

For a few reasons, the men of Australia love the rugged look. Firstly, alot of Auzzie men like to still appear just that, as MEN. Secondly, it's easy and they're lazy. Thirdly, somebody has told them that we like this manly look. Admittedly, we do. I do. HOWEVER. Being men, when this revealing conversation took place the only thing that reached their brain was 'So women love it when I do nothing'. What resulted? The I can throw anything on and be sexy look. Wrong.

He may be one of Australia's best male musicians, but the dreadlocked 35 year old once upon a time looked like he slept on the streets rather than walk them. Being a humble and unpretentious man, and lover of everything environmentally friendly, perhaps fashion wasn't at the forefront of his mind.....but being at the forefront of music I think he could have put in a little more care.

For one. If you are going to do the dreaded dreads, at least do them differently. Everyone has long dreads. Chop them Johnny! At least to shoulder length. Also, TRIM THE BEARD so it's neat and get rid of the mo. I have yet to see one person that looks good with a moustache. Stamp your style on it!

Having finished that rant and demeaning one of our best musicians as an example of the lack of style and laziness in dreads, Butler has actually chopped off his dreads for a while now.

Conclusion? Auzzie men are getting the rugged, they just can't team it with handsome....or are too lazy to try. It's hard for men. I know. We want them to look manly and gorgeous, we want them to try without looking like they tried. Have a quick cry boys and get over it. Check the reality.....that's what they ask from us!

Men like their women beautiful and maintained, but they also like to think we wake up like this. Even the most naturally blessed women maintain their appearances with waxes... face wash routines... moisturizers... hair cuts and colour...health watching...and fitness.

Even the most naturally blessed women need to maintain their style by putting a little time and thought into shopping and making the right purchases.

We need to educate and coach our Auzzie men into developing personal style. We're not asking all men to look like they've stepped off the catwalks of milan, just to take a little more care in showing who they are. What does it take? A little bit of maintenance every couple of days....and a little bit more time and consideration when shopping. How do we do that?

Thinking of you always,

Manda xx

Dear Readers

It's my first post! As such I should probably explain a little about myself.....but at this point, do you really care? I'm going to cut the wine influenced dribble and jump straight to what made me start this site. Man watching. How do you feel about that? Good idea right?

I love men and I love clothes. I love men without clothes, but if they have to wear clothes, they're sexier when they wear them well. Clothes and the way you dress are an extension of your personality. Your style is a reflection of who you are. Creating your own style isn't just for women. Men should be proud of who they are and try to show that too.

And so...this blog is dedicated to creating a hub where we can admire the men of the globe who have stamped their style well. Have a chat about who's working it, who's not and why not. Maybe we can help our boyfriends........

Lots of love,

Manda xx
